Recommendations for photo/video editing software?

thanks a lot raddave for your info and attachments. yes, i can see that Preview does do a lot.

rather than trying to find an app which will erase or block out an image
I don't want and replace with another has been a bit of a challenge.

i recently downloaded GIMP and am playing with that.
it of a learning curve compared to Adobe PS which I used in past.
still ironing out some basics but think i will get hang of it eventually.

finding the right app and fit for what I want to do fairly easy has been fun.

I don't think LR4 will achieve what you want. LR is more of a program to edit exposure, contrast, colours, etc (very powerfully) but it does not extend (in my experience anyway) to deleting chunks of an image and replacing with something else. That's more of a Photoshop job.

Yeah. LightRoom is for post-processing RAW files. If you want to remove or add something to the photo, Photoshop is your friend.
