Users weigh in with your settings, please.
Do you have all of the Blocking Options checked?
If so, why? If not, why not? (for each one you don't)

When I used to use Ghostery, I always checked block everything. You can whitelist specific sites later on..

I've now switched to uBlock Origin and have every option is selected there as well..

I have used Ghostery for a few years and set it up to block everything.

Why? Well, I guessed that if a site functioned alright, then it was good to have the block active. If a site malfunctioned, then I had the choice to ignore the site in future or, if it was a site I particularly wanted, I could "whitelist" it temporarily (pause/resume) or permanently.

In practice, very few sites require whitelisting.

Don't know if that helps.

@Ashwin

If you've the time, do you mind my asking you why you switched from Ghostery to uBlock Origin and what advantages it has over the former?

@Ian, nothing technical per say, but when I started a new job security was paramount and that was one of the required extensions to the browser. I initially had both Ghostery and uBlock running at the same time and that caused some issues, disabling Ghostery fixed that. They both seem to serve a similar purpose and do comparable well, so either one is likely fine..

I have been using uBlock Origin for quite a while now and it does what I want it to do. In my opinion, it is much better than Ghostery, Adblock Plus, etc.

uBlock does seem to do the work of multiple other plugins, but the one stated advantage is that it's fast and doesn't slow down the loading of sites which is important with out 2 second attention span..;)

If you checked them all out... which did you decide on? Like our moderator Ashwin I also use uBlock.

I leave all blocked on any machine I install Ghostery on. My wife and kids don't seem to notice.

@chscag \ I checked all the "block" boxes in Ghostery. New user, never tried the others.

+1 for blocking everything. Have never had to whitelist a site to get it working.

The only thing I've changed from stock settings is to remove the little "alert bubble" you get to show what is being blocked, etc.
