I want to extract photos from iphone backup as I lost my current ones.

Give iMazing or iExplorer a look. Neither is free but both work with IOS 10 and Sierra. Without knowing more about your situation/gear that's my best suggestion.

in fact, there are many such backup extractor programs in google, but most i'ts not free.
You can try to restore your iTunes backup with iTunes. or use email to transfer data from backup to your computer.
