New iMac with fusion ?

Planning on buying another imac soon. It will be a new or a no more than 2 year old refurbished . I'm a small / medium user with a 2010 at present time.
Is the old negative talk about fusion drives still true in 2017 ? The Apple store sells new imacs with fusion drives , have old issues been resolved.

Maybe you could tell us what the negative things were that you heard about fusion drives...so we are "all on the same page".

But I would say that I haven't really heard anything different about them (good or bad). There are always negative things said about just about everything...so take things with a grain of salt. If you MUST have lots of internal storage...the fusion drive is certainly the best $$$/gig option. I like to advise folks to get SSD/flash storage internally...since it is so much faster...and is the state of the art. Then use an external drive to off-load stuff as necessary.

I have a late 2015 iMac purchased in November 2015 with a fusion drive. I've had no issues whatsoever with the drive to this point. While I would have loved to purchase one with an SSD that just wan't in the budget. I also couldn't swing the dough for a fast external enclosure and drive. No matter what you decide keep a current clone around

Well all drives fail sooner rather than later, even SSDs.

If the pennies run to it, maybe a model with a 512GB PCI-e Flash Drive will fill your needs. If you do go Fusion, do not buy a 1TB drive since 2015 this come with only 24GB Flash Storage whereas the 2/3BT come with 128GB.

Great tip Harry regarding the small amount of flash memory on the 1TB fusion drive . I should have mentioned that!
