HP PhotoSmart 2575 Driver

Just bought a HP PhotoSmart 2575 (network enabled) printer.
I have two PowerBooks and installed the printer software/driver successfully on the first PowerBook. By this I mean that the "All-in-One" driver was recognized within the (Mac OS X) Printer Browser utilty and I could then connect to the printer.

For some reason on the second powerbook the "All-in-One" driver is not
recognized - ie does not appear in the (Mac OS X) Printer Browser
utilty. I have uninstalled, reinstalled, downloaded latest version etc. But always the same thing.

Anybody suggest why the second (identical) powerbook does not seem to know about the new driver?

Is it possible that the first install had a problem, and the subsequent uninstall (via HP Uninstall utility) does not remove everything it should? If so, any advice on cleaning out the hp driver/software installation so I can try to install again

I manually select the GIMP PhotoSMart 9100 driver and that seems to work, but I'd like to install the correct driver properly if possible.

Thanks for any help,
Darrell

Good luck to you. I have the same printer and tried to get it to network, but had no luck. Hopefully you will have better luck, than I did.

This worked for me:

--------------------------

Thank you for contacting HP Total Care.

To assist you in correcting the issue you are having, I suggest a
complete manual uninstall and reinstall. However, the reinstall will
be using the newest software online. I will provide the link below.

By uninstalling and reinstalling, you do one of two things:

1- provide a 'clean slate', from which we can attempt to correct any
errors or issues (if they appear)
2- solve the issue completely

Possible causes: Corrupt software CD, faulty installation, system
issues, computer system upgrade, virus.

Tests and Possible Resolutions:

NOTE 1: Please note that scanning over a network is not guaranteed
(even if it was previously working without issues), regardless of
type of connection. HP also does not provide support for installing
on, or connecting printer to, a server of any kind.

STEP 1 DOWNLOAD NEW SOFTWARE

The following procedure will allow you to download the newest version
of the software required for your printer and computer. It will allow
you to have the software as soon as possible and for free.

Possible causes: Corrupt software CD, faulty installation, system
issues, file not added to the Login Items list, computer system
upgrade.

Tests and Possible Resolutions:

NOTE:
You may download the software either before or after the uninstall.

The link for the download is:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...product=441240&dlc=en&softwareitem=cj-37831-1

The file we recommend you download is:

HP Photosmart 2570 Series All-in-One web installers for Mac OS X
v10.2.8, v10.3 and v10.4

Date: 01-2006 Version: 7.7.2 Size: 109.34M

NOTE: If the above website link does not work, copy and paste the
address in the address bar of your Internet browser. I have verified,
by closing the website and clicking on the provided link, that it does
re-open the required website. If you cannot access the website, you may
need to choose another browser or contact your Internet Service
Provider for assistance.

STEP 2 MANUALLY UNINSTALL
ISSUE:
There are built-in print-only drivers that by default install with
Tiger that may create conflicts with the drivers for the printer. The
most effective way of resolving numerous issues with the printer is to
remove all files relating to HP printers and then install them using
the latest drivers available from the HP web site.

NOTE: Before proceeding, please ensure you have downloaded the full
software packages for all HP hardware being used with this Mac,
including the printer.
NOTE: If possible, run the Uninstaller for the printer first. It can be
found in the following location:

MacintoshHD>Applications>HewlettPackard. Restart the computer and empty
the trash when prompted.

A manual uninstall is always suggested when upgrading your Operating
system
or All-in-One software. This will minimize the chance of
complications. To uninstall the HP all-in-one software, use the
following steps:

Double-click the Macintosh hard drive (labeled Macintosh HD by default).

Open the Applications folder.

Open the Utilities folder.

pipedaemon.

Highlight them one at a time and click the Quit Process icon above.

Click Force Quit to quit the process.

After you quit all of the above items found, close Activity Monitor.
