I have recently installed MS Office 2016 having previously used MS Office 2011 (which I still have on my iMac). I find that 2016 is so very different from 2011 that I have a difficulty with two things on Excel that I need to do as follows:

1. I want to insert a row in a spreadsheet and cannot find out how to do this. It was so easy on 2011.

2. I want to change the Max and/or Min on the vertical scale on charts. Say changing the Minimum value or the Max value so that the lines on the chart fit neatly between the Max and Min. It was dead easy to do on Office 2011.

Just curious. What made you decide to upgrade to MS Office 2016 when MS Office 2011 is still compatible with the latest Mac OS?

Thanks,

- Nick

p.s. Thread moved to better area. Not a "Running Windows (or anything else) on your Mac" topic.:)

Give this technique a try. I don't have the Mac version but have found on the PC side that this does not seem to work as reliably adding rows as it once did.

To add or delete a row, look for these icons on one of the ribbon bars. If they are not there, use Preferences to pick what does show on the ribbon.

I can't help with the Max/Min right now, I'm headed out, but I'll look later to see where that is done.

To change max/min, just double click on the axis labels and a side window will open to format the labels. One of the options is max and min, as well as interval and subinterval.

Nick,

I just happened to see 2016 going for just $99 and thought it was a bargain. I now regret it but should I now dump 2016 and throw away $99? I don't know.

Regards,

Jeremy

Jake,

Thanks for that. It worked just fine. All I need now is the Max/Min

Regards, Jeremy

Totally understandable...that was a great price!!!:) And very possible (given Office 2011's age)...that Mac OS support for Office 2011 will very likely be dropped soon. I'm kind of surprised that Office 2011 still works with Mac OS Sierra (OS 10.12). It would have probably been necessary to upgrade to a newer version of Office soon anyway.;)

Hey...just a little bit of a learning curve going from Office 2011 to Office 2016!;) Soon you'll be as familiar with Office 2016 as you were with Office 2011.:) And you've gotten some great pointers in this thread so far!:)

I have both versions and have decided to continue to use 2011 since the stand alone version of Office 2016 is bloated and dumbed down. Microsoft really wants you to subscribe to Office 365 which contains a much better (configurable) version of Office 2016. When Office 2011 will no longer run in OS X, then I will switch to Pages.

Apple has already notified developers that 32 bit OS X applications will not be supported after January 1, 2018, so that might kill off Office 2011 (which is 32 bit). We don't know for sure but with Apple one should expect the unexpected. ;D

Thank you Slydude. It worked perfectly with the Mac version. Now I have two ways together with MacInwins suggestion.

Thanks Nick. It's Excel I most interested in. I have tried Numbers but it doesn't have the functionality that I need with some of my very complex spreadsheets. I will keep both 2011 and 2016.

Thanks for all that. Until a month ago I was still using 2008 which was a real struggle.

Ahhhhhh....that's a "horse of a different color"!;) Thought you were a longtime expert user of Office 2011...stuck in the long time habit's & familiarity of Office 2011;)...and were having trouble transitioning to Office 2016.:(
