I am new to burning data on a dvd and I'm having a problem doing so.
I have Mac OS X (version 10.4.6) with a PowerMac G5 quad
and 1.5 GB of RAM. My version of iDVD is 5.0.1.

I would like to burn data on a single disc that is 5.89 GB in size, so I have a Verbatim DVD+R DL disc for this purpose, which holds a maximum of 8.5 GB of data.

I have the data files in a burn folder, and when I click on the "burn" button I receive the following message: "insert a blank disc to begin. This disc will be burned with the contents of "Burn Folder." You will need a disc with a capacity of at least 5.89 GB."

The disc is, in fact, already inserted in the drive but the Mac doesn't seem to recognize it for some reason. In the iDVD / project / project info / window, I have selected the 8.0 GB (Double Layer) option within the Media Type drop-down menu.

Any tips on how to successfully burn this data is much appreciated.

Try just inserting the DVD, copying the files onto the DVD by dragging them onto the blank disc, and then burning the disk from the Finder. It's been a while, but I'm pretty sure this is what I did when I last burned files onto a DVD... let me know if it works for you.
