Inserting Into iMovie Timeline

Hello!

You guys have helped me before in a big way, so im hoping you might again!

RE: iMovie

When inserting clips from the clip pane onto the timeline, is there any way you can insert them without the clips that are already in the timeline moving?

I have edited the second half of a piece to some audio, and would love to not have to keep moving the clips back into place everytime i insert ahead of them.

Your help is much appreciated!

I cant quite understand what yours aying, but if it is what I think it is well... its little things like this that quickly make Final Cut Express and Pro so great. Sorry I can't help you, maybe a picture or diagram because I cant understand.

If you want to have an audio track fix in position, then try menu item Advanced -> Lock Audio Clip at Playhead. That is a guess.

Yeah i was expecting the "get a better program" response to be honest!

What I mean is, you have your timeline that you drop clips into on iMovie. Say you drop one at 1m 10s. If you drop a 5 second clip in anywhere ahead of this on the timeline, that first clip will get pushed along 5 seconds. If you attach the audio to that clip, the audio gets pushed along 5 seconds as well - it doesnt hold the clip in place!

I doubt there is an answer, but if anyone does know it then let me know!

If iMovie didn't do this the clip you drop in would overwrite the video you already have. Usually not what you want. There is an easy way to do this in Final Cut Pro either with multiple video tracks or the overwright insertion function, but your problem doesnt really seem like a problem to me.

^agreed its not a problim the clips move because you dont want the new clip to overwrite the one infront or behind it.

just like everyone else says just another reason to upfrade to FCP
