On the menu bar up top there is now a little American flag icon, I have no idea how it got there. When I click on it a menu comes up with another picture of the flag with a check by it, below that it says 'show character palette' and below that it says 'open international.' Does anybody know how to get rid of this icon from the menu bar, I can't seem to figure it out.

I appreciate it. I'm still a newbie when it comes to Macs, I learn something new about this thing every day.

that or 'Open International' and select the 'Input Menu' Tab. At the very bottom deselect the option to show input menu in menu bar. You can also access 'International' in the system preferences in case you want the input menu back
