I have broken the display connector on the logic board of my late 2012 27" iMac. When I turn it on, the display remains blank and the fans ramp to to full.

I am going to use an adaptor to connect it to my TV as a temporary external monitor, but is there anyway I can continue using the machine in the long term?

My preference is to get the internal display working again, but is this possible without a new logic board?

If I can't do that, I would like to continue using an external display, but is it possible to reduce the fan levels somehow?

Has the hard drive been exchanged? Who broke the connector?

Welcome to our forums.

Unless you can repair that connector, the fan (not fans - you only have one in the 2012 model) will run full rpm. It's a common problem when that connector is damaged. There are places where you can send your iMac and they will replace the connector (not the entire logic board) but it may be expensive. If you wish to use an external monitor, you'll need to install a third party fan control app to tone down the fan. Macs Fan Control is one that I recommend.

I maybe having the same problem. How did you verify you broke the connector on the main logic board ? Was it very obvious ? I tried the Macs fan control but unfortunlety it didn't solve my issue.
