Secure Empty trash

I just noticed that when I secure empty trash it seems to subtract space from my harddrive. Is this normal

Subtract, as in there is now less space free on your hard drive?

Now that's strange. I haven't noticed this happening with mine.

yes each time I do it mb's seem to disappear but when I just empty nothing happens as far as space goes

i've never used secure... don't have a need for it personally.
