Hello, I have just tried to install the most recent version of Yosemite on my Mac model A1278. It was not connected to a power source (I know I know, it gave me a warning. My bad) and it died during the update. Now it won't start at all. The small white light on the front right turns on, flashes rapidly for 2-3 seconds, and then you hear the whole thing shut down. Help?

The reason the device asks you to ensure it is plugged into AC power is to avoid this situation.
The solution is complex and if you have easy access to a Mac Service centre I would suggest you take it there.

Welcome to the forum.

According to MacTracker, A1278 was used on six models of MBPs from 2008 to 2012. What MBP is it, exactly? What OS was on it originally? Have you tried a recovery boot? Internet Boot? Do you have backups? Clones? It's hard to help with so little information.

Do as Jake (MacInWin) suggests. Try booting into the Recovery Partition (command + r)...and reinstall the OS.

Then if you want to reinstall Yosemite...do it again...but this time plug in the computer during this process!;)

Hey there Rod.:)

I'm confused. One of us is seeing blue...and one of us isn't!;)

Which post are you referring to?

- Nick

p.s. Or maybe it's something to do with the iPhone.

Well this reply is a good example. The first smiley ? is yellow and the second one is blue. Are they both yellow at your end?

I'm even more confused because in your post, Rod, I only saw ONE smiley, yellow, between "The first smiley" and "is yellow." No second smiley, blue or not.

So this is what I saw, for all you sceptics. But this is not how it appears in Safari in the iPhone. At least I'm not going nuts.

C'mon Rod.... not true because your iPhone automatically puts this in the last line when using the Mac Forums app:

Sent from my iPhone using Mac Forums

Safari has nothing to do with that since you're not using Safari to read and send replies via the Mac Forums app. ;D

Sorry this is not so. When I open an email reply to a thread it opens in Safari. When I read it as part of a post on the Mac Forums app it opens in Mac Forums app.
What you see above is a screen shot of the thread from the Mac Forums app posted in the app. If I view the same post via email link in Safari all the smilies are yellow. Except the picture of course.
You will notice my post before that in ref to the ophthalmologist does not say " sent via Mac forums o my iPhone because it was sent via Safari.

Either way there is one blue emoji and one yellow. Because it's harder to find an answered post in the app I originally took the easy way by clicking on the email link. After that I checked the subscribed list in the app to check and noted the difference.

Well in that case Rod, you'll just have to get used to those yellow and blue emoji smileys. :) Hey, when you're living in paradise nice and warm there must be other things to worry about besides blue emojis. We're down to 25 F here today in Fort Worth. Unusually cold. Could use some of that warm sunshine where you are. ;D

Well I could understand if your emoji were blue.

LOL, good one Rod. We actually had about ½" of snow fall this afternoon. Of course around here when it snows even a little bit, you park the car in the garage and hunker down for the day. Trying to drive with all the crazies on the road would just be putting one more "crazy" on the highway. ;D

-3.81C sounds even more extreme, now that's cold even in Melbourne. Unheard of here of course. I wonder if our OP has given up on us with all this patter?
