dmg.gz Files: Extract to Nowhere?

I have both BOMArchiveHelper and Stuffit installed, but when I double click a .gz file (such as the download on this page: UptimeInMenuBar), I see a quick expansion progress bar, and then no extracted file. I have also tried to open the .gz file with Stuffit, but it seems to provide no option to see the archive contents and manually drag it out of the package. Instead even when launched that way, it proceeds to extract it, but I still don't see a file. I had a similar situation with a collection of screensavers in a .gz package. Never got to use them, as they never seemed to extract. So, what am I doing wrong? Thanks!

I hosted it for you, download here as a normal disk image.

As for why it's not extracting, I have no idea, it worked fine on my Powerbook.

you know, this happened to me once, and just to see what happened i showed my hidden files, and there was the file, but with a period in front of the folder....i don't know why they hid it.

A good thought. Where to I go to "show hidden files"? I think I've done that before, but I'm only 1/3rd of the way into my first cup of coffee for the morning, and can't remember.

Yes I am. I don't recall noticing this before 10.4.6, but dmg.gz files seem to be a less common format, so I might not have tried it before either.

To show hidden files you open Terminal and type:

defaults write com.apple.Finder ShowAllFiles TRUE

Minding the Caps. To reverse it, just type FALSE in place of true.

Once again, thanks. I didn't find the file showing hidden files either, so who knows? BTW, I keep trying to add "reputation points" to your profile, but I'm met with the "need to spread around" message. I do appreciate the help though.

i just downloaded it and it automatically mounted on my desktop, no unzipping needed.

Hmm...well it's not a problem. I just sit at work all day bored out of my mind and get on here trying to help some people out.
