Rogue One

Just saw Rogue One last night. Pretty friggin awesome movie. Very well may be my favorite of the series. Very different "feel" from the previous installments. Very entertaining!

I saw The Force Awakens on a plane trip somewhere and can't say that it was compelling enough for me to watch it again in a quieter environment, but I am hearing better things about Rogue One so will have to check it out. Unfortunately no one else in my family is interested in the Star Wars movies..

I haven't been to a movie in many years. My cable subscription includes all the HBO, Showtime, Epix, etc, channels which are where I watch movies. Of course by the time they hit the cable channels they're a few years old. Around here going to a good movie can cost as much as $50.00 for two tickets and decent seats.

Ashwin. I don't think you'll be disappointed. I won't share any details (spoilers)...but it's really an awesome movie. The fact that it was directed by a different person...it's been almost 40 years since the first Star Wars movie...and CG has come a long long way.

It's honestly almost a stand alone movie/story on it's own. If someone had just arrived from Saturn...and this was the first Star Wars movie they ever saw. I don't think that they would be disappinted or confused. I will say one thing. There's one action scene where Darth Vader is FINALLY...one bad dude you don't want to mess with in a dark room! You know the deal. Like bringing a knife to a gun fight!

It does include some necessary series details for continuity reasons. But nothing overbearing.

I hear ya Charlie. We usually don't go to the movie theater much either. Prices, disrespectful movie goers, smartphones...you name it. We usually go 1-2x/ year. We get free tickets via my wife's employer...which are private showings or pre-release showings. Only employee's, significant other's, and family members are there...so a pretty well behaved group!

With such high praise, I'll have to round up some Star Wars geeks to check this out..currently our movie choices are driven by my 9-yr old daughter..so Moana is the next thing on our schedule post holidays..

I hear ya. Those "little humans" seem to run the ship sometimes! Gotta be an aunt or uncle out there somewhere that can run "interference"...so you can go see it.

Believe it or not. One time myself & two coworkers went out for lunch...and didn't get back until about 3-4pm. Got lunch...and caught a 1pm new release matinee movie! It was a slow time. Nobody missed us!

+1 for the flick. It was well done, totally stand alone, true to the canon of StarWars and filled in the plot hole from the original movie way back in 1977. You don't need to have seen any SW movie ever to enjoy it, but it fits nicely between Ep 3 and Ep 4. The CGI still needs a little work, but it was pretty good, nevertheless. And yes, Darth Vader is a bad dude and you get to really see that in this one.

I liked it! The first third was a bit slow. The middle thrid picked up the pace very well. The last third was excellent! IMAX 3D was pointless... right up until the last third when it was really cool!

My absolute favorite part was the very last 3 minutes...

On my 'to see' list - some potentially sad news shown below about one of the Star Wars founding members - Dave

I saw that in the news this afternoon. She actually went into cardiac arrest and is lucky to be alive. The news didn't say much more about it though.

A quick revisit to this thread. After Carrie Fisher's unfortunate passing away. Going to see "Rogue One" takes on a completely different meaning & experience!

On a lighter note, after seeing that pic of Yoda Nick put on here in December, i feel like now it is the perfect time to share the following Easter egg...

On the Star Wars Episode 3 dvd menu, if you clic on "options" (US dvd) or "language selection" (other zones) and then press 1-1-3-8 when on the language and subtitles menu, you get a short video of Yoda rapping and breakdancing on "Don't Say Nuthin'" by The Roots.

Depending on your blue-ray/dvd player, you may have to press "enter" after every digit, or press 11-enter-3-enter-8-enter. Shouldn't do it too fast though, just wait for that menu to skip back to the beginning of its animation and highlight the THX optimizer option after every digit (or after every time you hit enter). Just saying that because i tried unsuccessfully several times after learning about it, only because i did it too fast.
