Hi I apologize if this is not the correct forum for this question. I am trying to create a fillable form to help ADD students doing research papers. I have activated the developer tab in word 2011 but I am embarrassed to say that I can't figure out how to create the form! I have substantial experience with creating forms and data base forms with a myriad of programs but this has me miffed and frustrated. When I do a google search all I get is how to activate the developer tab. My library doesn't have a word 2011 for mac book. sigh. I must say that I am not a developer but this task seems pretty basic. So any advice or tips are much appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help. Amy

Hi Bob, thanks for your reply. But, yes I have seen this link.

I feel so dumb but faced with a blank page, I want to type in an instruction and then have a field for the user to fill in. Such as Source #: _______

OMG I think I just figured it out in my attempt to more specifically explain the problem. But can you tell me what insert frame is what is a frame for? Thanks Amy

Hi Randy,

Nice tutorial. I'm sure the OP will find it very useful.

Having watched it, I realised that much of this could be achieved with TextExpander, a pay-for app that has many other functions and is very popular with Mac users.

This is simply an observation that might benefit other readers of this thread. I have no connection or interest in the developer whatsoever.

Thanks, I will check this out because as it turns out I didn't really figure it out. What I don't understand is why isn't this an easy thing to do? Some good hearted person should make a note card for students to use, that has fields for Topic, Source #, Page # and note and maybe another field that could be edited? I don't know.

Word has very powerful form creation abilities, but isn't the easiest to learn to use, and there is a dearth of advanced instruction/manuals for using Word for the Macintosh.

My user group has lots of folks who need to create fill-able forms, and various members use a variety of products to make the process of creating them easier. However, they don't all approach the task in the same way. Here are some products that you might want to have a look at:

PDFpen/Pro ($125)
http://smilesoftware.com/PDFpenPro/index.html#
Allows you to easily create PDF forms.

Template Turbine ($10)

MacSimplePrompter ($279/$299)

A popular product among professionals for quickly creating fill-able forms in Microsoft Word.

Thank you! I will check these out later today. Especially the Template turbine for $10 since I do this as a volunteer for LD Students

While there are a bunch of nice books on how to use the advanced features of Word for Windows, there is a dearth of them for Word/Mac. I don't know of any for Word 2016 yet, but there are some for the previous version, 2011. I haven't checked these out myself, you might want to have a look and see if they suit your needs:

Office 2011 for Macintosh: The Missing Manual
$22

Office 2011 for Mac For Dummies
$19

There are some advanced video tutorials for Word, but they aren't inexpensive:

Atomic Learning ($100) (beginning, intermediate and advanced)

Thanks, I have found the Missing Manual books pretty good in the past. Thanks for reminding me. And I think I can do some Atomic Learning courses through the library consortium. I don't know why I didn't think of these. Thanks again.
