Hello Thomas - welcome to the forum! :) I'll start the responses w/ the app that I am using, i.e. iStudio Publisher - this is for my personal needs (birthday & holidays), and I invariably use 4-fold cards (obtained a template from the developer's website) - click the link; a free trial is available; the tutorials are excellent; and the website is responsive if you have a question.

Below is the app opened on my laptop - there is a main window (on left) w/ a BD card I made for my brother back in May of this year; the 'Inspectors' panel is on the right and offers plenty of ways to manipulate your projects. I've not explore any other apps, although some of the word processors, such as Pages also offer templates. Hopefully, others will 'chime in' w/ their advice. Dave

I don't know if it would be complete enough for you but the free Avery Mac software used to have some options but I haven't used it for ages.

It seems they still supply Avery Design & Print and some other stuff at:

EDIT:
I forgot to mention one probably has the software already on their Macs to create greeting cards etc. and lots of suggestions to use Pages:

Can anyone suggest a greeting card program?

There are a number of choices for programs that are specifically designed to create greeting cards:

Swift Publisher $20
http://www.belightsoft.com/products/swiftpublisher/overview.php

Cardsmith $10
http://www.ohanaware.com/fungreetings/

PrintShop $80
http://www.mackiev.com/print_shop.html

ClickBook $50
http://www.bluesquirrel.com/products/cbmac/

You can, of course, use any page layout program (I can give you a list of these, if you like) or just about any true word processor, to create greeting cards and the like.

These free greeting card template for Apple's Pages make creating greeting cards really easy, and are a good choice if you already own a copy of Pages:

I know nothing at all about Cardsmith but the price is right. However, I do own Swift Publisher in addition to iStudio Publisher and I can tell you from my own experience with it that it is difficult to use, cumbersome, and very poorly designed. I do not recommend it. Print Shop and ClickBook are both good apps but pricey.

The price I mentioned above is the price quoted from the Mac App Store here in the US. ($17.99) The Mac App Store makes no mention of education price or commercial use.

The Mac App Store price for iStudioPublisher is $17.99
http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/istudio-publisher/id430820689?ls=1&mt=12

The version that you can download from the Mac App Store is slightly different than the version you can purchase from the developer's Web site:
http://www.istudiopublisher.com/store/#fancyboxID-1

Here are the available licenses directly from the developer:
http://www.istudiopublisher.com/store/
http://www.istudiopublisher.com/store/discount-pricing/

Basically the App Store version of iStudioPublisher is a full version for what is usually educational pricing, the trade off is that it includes copy protection and updates will be available later than if you got them directly from the developer.

Oh, and you can only download a free demo of iStudioPublisher from the developer's Web site, not from the Mac App Store.

Just like so many other Apple App Store application purchases that they often (and usually) fail to mention any lack of features with their purchases!!! :(

PS: Always check with the developer's site and their included features with their possible app version download.

Don't be so quick to jump on that band wagon Patrick and group all developers as the same.

Not that I'm doubting what Randy stated above, but I would certainly like to know "which" features are missing from the App Store version of iStudio Publisher than from the developer's web site? I've been using iStudio Publisher for quite some time and it has been updated several times adding the latest features. Also, the developer has been very responsive to requests for special templates, never once differentiating between the version sold in the App store and that from his site.

Thanks Randy, but it's like I said... there is no functional difference. Every App downloaded from the Mac App Store has the same requirements for Apple ID and so forth. There is no trial software allowed in the Mac App store as you well know. Also to access the Mac App Store you must be running OS X 10.6.6. Functionally, iStudio Publisher is the same other than what was mentioned above.

Usually where there is something that either the developer or Apple doesn't like or can't get along, that app will not appear at all in the Mac App Store. Carbon Copy Cloner is one such app and there are others.

Why would they disable features? to justify the price? Thanks for the reply.

Basically, "certain differences are due to "sandboxing" restrictions and limitations that Apple places on the functionality of Mac App Store programs."

As for pricing, personally I prefer that all my money go to the developer whenever possible and purchase from their site, as Apple takes 30% of the income that the App Store software sales generate.
