I played the same solo with a Gibson Les Paul
Jr. (solid body) and then a 1965 Gibson ES175 (semi-hollow) expecting a significant tonal difference. I selected Bright & Clean guitar amp for both tracks. What I got was very similar. Is there a way to get more of each guitar's characteristics - the resonation of a hollow body or the sharpness, clarity of LP - into GarageBand? Different amp selection? Adjust amp settings? What?

To catch more of the guitar's character, track the guitar using a DI box. Take time to find the best simulated amp for each and then mix using more of the dry signal from your DI'd track.
