Can any one help. I have on my iMac and MBP saying that there has been taken up 36 gig for movies on the hard drive. I have none on my computers.
I did have some years ago but deleted them. On my laptop I did have some videos from my dash cam that I downloaded recently to look at them, I
then deleted them again. But since then I have 20gig less space. Why is this? Both computers run El-Capitan. What can I do to get my storage space back.

How did you delete them? Were they loaded into iTunes?

Some of the movies were bought from iTunes some were rented. I just deleted them from the computer. Which I also did with my Dash cam videos. These were just loaded in to photos and the deleted.

That's your problem... Photos has its own Trash. Unless you go into the Photos Trash and delete those videos, they're still present on your Mac.

Yes, thats where I was going too chscag. Also deleting them from an iTunes does not necessarily trash the items unless you choose to put them in the trash. It just deletes them from the playlist while they remain in the iTunes library. Worth checking both.

I cannot see the Movies in my iTunes library. Also when I open Photos there is nothing there, only used it for the dash cam videos. Normally use Photoshop.

The Photos program has its own Trash. Did you look there? Dash Cam videos can be quite large.

I am also interested in the answer to this. I recently deleted my iPhoto Library (I thought) but I see that when I open Photos I have a folder "iPhoto Events" which appears to have all of the pictures that I thought I had deleted (that is, I don't want duplicate photos of those that I already have in Photos taking up space on my HDD).

It's in the sidebar looks like a trash can and is called Recently Deleted in the current version of Photos.

I was able to delete all the video files in Photos, by going to album and recently deleted, and deleting them again. So I gained my 36 gig back on the MBP Hard drive. Now I need to do the same on my Imac. Only I have no idea were they are.

Look in the same folders that you checked on the MBP. Even if the OS X versions are not identical, the last several versions of OS X have placed photo and video files in the same places.

@ellen:

As Moderator Slydude indicated, they will be in the same place on your iMac if you're using the Photos program. Also, the older iPhoto program worked the same way.

They are not in the same place. I cannot find them. To my knowledge I have never used cloud for pictures and movies.

I have found some slide show movies I made. But still have about 25 gigs of movies some were. This is on my iMac which collected five years of files from old all transferred to to my new iMac.

Do you have any files in your Pictures folder? If so, what are the names of the files? Same thing for your Movies folder? Did you add any movies to iTunes, to watch on iPad, or Apple TV?
