Due to the drop in value of the UK Pound, Apple has had to increase its prices in the UK to cover the change in exchange rates.

For example, the 13in MacBook Air, released in March 2015, has priced increased by £100 to £949.

The Mac Pro desktop computer, released in Dec 2013, has increased by £500 to £2,999!

Not really. That is how much the pound has crashed. Things may improve as the US dollar sinks with all the hype and mystery surrounding the Presidential Election.

LOL, Harry. No mystery about the election. Whoever get elected, I'm on my way to beautiful Nambucca Heads by the ocean. Also it's Spring down there - nice time of year to hit the beach! Save me some of that Peach Tea you're drinking. :)

Sad to see prices have gone up without warning, but it was inevitable. I bought my iMac in late September because I had a strong feeling this would have happened due to the currently weak pound.

Border Protection is on the alert looking for Texans. We are considering building a big wall and making you pay for it. Not real original but there you are................

I just priced a top spec MBP15 and it is actually cheaper in sterling, once you compare the net figures - £3,374 vs $4,299.
At today's rate, that's £158 cheaper.

The fact is - the VAT is 20% and is included in the published price - £4,049, whereby state sales taxes are only up to half that, and not included in displayed figures.

Harry, if you're hiring bricklayers for your wall - I'm your man: never touched a brick, that wasn't already part of a building, and have no experience in any construction work, so am perfectly qualified for any government building project.

You definitely don't want to buy that top spec MBP 15 in New York City. Not only will you pay NY State sales tax but NYC throws in their sales tax. I believe the tax total will be more than 10%.

Glad I didn't wait till my 12 month warranty was almost up before buying AppleCare as that has gone up £50 from £279 to £349.

Nevada and Montana are good places to buy stuff. No sales tax at all. I suspect there's no Apple Store in Helena but there's at least one in Vegas and probably another in Reno.

I try to buy my Apple products at the Navy Exchange at the Naval Base here in Fort Worth. (Military exchanges are exempt from state sales tax.) The problem is that Apple products are very popular and go fast, and the military exchanges take a long time to re-stock.

How does this work with online orders? Is the tax calculated on where you live, where it's delivered?

Apple calculates on line sales tax based on your delivery address. Here in the US, that would be our postal code. Since each state and some locales have different sales tax rates, that's really the only way Apple could do it. I have no idea how they calculate sales tax for Canada or the UK for an on line sale.

Yes, I bought some pro photo stuff in NY once, long-long time ago ... it was surprising to see the total LOL

When I lived in Nassau, I used to buy my gear from Apple store on Lincoln Rd in Miami Beach, or had it shipped to my Fort Lauderdale address, and the tax was 7% for in-store, and 6% for shipped from CA.

All retail prices in the UK, whether in-store or online, are tax inclusive if that product or service is liable for tax. You know exactly what you will pay at the outset, nothing added on at the till.

In Canada, GST is applied wherever you live. It's the federal sales tax. PST (provincial sales tax) is applied depending on which province you live in. The NorthWest Territories, Nunavut, Yukon, Alberta and the city of Lloydminster, Saskatchewan have no PST. In the other provinces it varies.
