Pro Tools on OS X El Capitan

Hy guys..

I recently bought an MacBook Pro (with OS X El Capitan 10.11.6) and I`m trying to install any version of protools, but i just keep getting error messages:

"An incompatible version of the OS was found. Pro Tools 10.2 requires Mac OS X version 10.7 or higher."

Does anybody know if I can`t install any older versions of protools in this OS?
Should I try to downgrade my mac OS??

In order for us to help, please provide as much information about your MBP. Click on the Apple icon, in the upper left corner and select About This Mac. It should list model and year, and then we will now what OS X versions it will support.

I do know that ProTools 10 will not work with El Capitan. We run ProTools 11 on an iMac where I work. Our audio tech updated the iMac to El Capitan. When he would play back the audio it had this horrid jumbled audio sound that I can't begin to describe.

I called ProTools and was told El Capitan handles audio differently(???) and we needed to purchase an upgrade to ProTools 12. Since our audio tech did not want to do that, I had to roll the iMac back to Mavericks (he had never upgraded it to Yosemite.)

I will also tell you that when we originally installed ProTools it was a beast to get up and running. Between the dongle that has to always be inserted and the various codes etc my audio tech was not a happy person. We had to call ProTools tech support twice to get it setup and running.

Personally I have abandoned all these utilities: DiskWarrior, Pro Tools, Tech Tool Pro.

You can bet each and every new system will need an update at a cost. And let's face it, the cost of a new hard drive is often cheaper than the diagnosis tool.

Gotta agree with you Harry. I haven't even bothered to update my copy of Data Rescue. I keep my backups up to date with CCC and TM and see no need to spend $95 to $100 to update an app that I will likely never use. Same goes for Disk Warrior. By the way, the Pro Tools app mentioned above is even more expensive and requires that you use a dongle when running it.

I'm with you on that, Harry. Just to mention, though - Pro Tools represents a suit of apps related to audio editing and tweaking, high-end stuff as far as I can see. Nothing to do with diagnostics.

One of the big issues with more and more of the app/software companies is they are moving to monthly fees for usage. Avid, Adobe, Microsoft are just a few. I personally do not like it as I have stated in other threads. I received a free year of Adobe CC and gave it a try. It seemed there was this steady stream of updates. Also I don't use all the apps but it is cheaper to pay for the whole package than to just pay for the ones I use. The one advantage is when a new OS comes along the app is up to date - so there is that.

I also do not like the monthly subscription plan that many software providers are going with. I suppose for some users it's an advantage, but for someone like myself, I'd rather go with the traditional software purchase. Although I guess you could say we never really purchase the software; only a license to use it according to the software developer's EULA.
