We are doing more and more travel these days. Seems like more Hotels are equipped with Tv's that have HDMI inputs. I own a Roku but air play won't work with it. I am considering an ATV, but I THINK I want a used one. Which one to pick. Any pros or cons with a particular model? What would YOU do? Maybe there is a minimum Model or S/W level? Thanks!

For me personally, I'm only in the hotel room to sleep (collapse usually) after a long day of "vacationing" outside..so carrying devices to use in the room is never going to be a necessity for me..:)

When I travel for business, I have work to get done in the room if I'm not with clients..

I have a young child and she's the first one to collapse when we get back to the hotel room..:)

But on the topic of discussion, if you want to go down the ATV route, definitely get the latest generation which has been redesigned with a new remote recently. The software will update when you actually use it. You can go to the Apple Refurbished store and pick up the 4th gen ATV for either $129 or $169 for the 32GB or 64GB devices respectively.

The other option if you just want something to stream to would be Google's Chromecast which is just $35..

Or if you have an iPad or iPhone you could get a lightning to HDMI adapter (Lightning Digital AV Adapter as Apple calls it).

That way you have all the major facilities you have with an AppleTV but also the facility for storing then playing video content directly from the device without having to rely on wifi/cell network.
