What is Apple going to do with the G5? Phase it out? Would it therefore be a bad idea to buy a new Mac with a G5?

Frankly, I'm glad I don't have an Intel machine. I use one (and Windows) at work all day long. I am happy to come home to my G5. I love it.
My next computer purchase will probably be a G4 12" iBook when the next Intel latops come out. The G4...aaaah! What a crappy processor ;-)
