Hi, so i have a MC700LL/A running Yosemite 10.10.5. When i plug in anything into the USB ports it does not show that anything is plugged in, however when i plug my phone in it receives power so i know the USB ports work. I have tried the SMC reset but as of right now my USB ports are non-functioning besides being able to charge my phone. Please help!

The next thing that I would try would be resetting the PRAM/NVRAM by restarting your Mac and then immediately holding down the Command+Option+P+R keys

If you get no joy from doing that, I'd run Apple Diagnostics:

What exactly are you plugging in to the USB ports? An external drive? A usb mouse or keyboard? The drives may not show unless you have selected that option in Finder > Preferences, did you select the option? Open Image Capture before you plug your iPhone in, does IC recognize the iPhone?

Also, keep in mind that no matter how the Finder preferences are set an optical drive will not show on the desktop unless a disc has been inserted .

I've tried plugging in an android phone and a USB audio interface. The phone does not show up on image capture but it still charges. I've plugged the phone into another Mac and it shows up so it's not the phone that has the problem

It sounds like some of the data pins are not making proper contact but the power/charging contacts are.

Carefully look for misaligned/dirty/missing pins.

Did you try running Apple Diagnostics, as I suggested?

If the above procedures don't help, there is probably nothing that you can do on your own, and you will have to return your Mac to Apple for a hardware repair. See:
