My 2015 15" Mac Pro has 2 thin USB 3 ports. I want to connect a printer with a USB 3 cord, but my Raleigh Apple store does NOT have a USB3 cord for this!. With my thin USB3 port, how can I connect my printer? A USB adapter?

What printer do you have? It'll help to know what we're dealing with so we can recommend the correct cable.

It's a HP Deskjet 1510, a very cheap printer which only connects with a USB cord. I bought it in hope that I could use it when I travel on vacation to print out information about things I might do, and I wanted a small, simple printer for that. Thanks.

If you read page 47 of the User Guide the printer works only with USB2. Amd I take it you mean a MacBook Pro, not a hulking 33lb Mac Pro?

I don't understand why you want to use a USB 3 cable. For starters, the end that would plug into the Mac is the same on USB 2 and USB 3, and you can use a USB 2 device on a USB 3 port just fine. The end that plugs into your particular printer is "probably" a USB Type B connector (still USB 2). If so, you need a cable like this one:

Don't get worked up about USB 3 vs USB 2. I'm not even sure if a printer could see a speed advantage from USB 3 anyway.

You are correct. The computer and printer will communicate at USB 2.0 speed no matter if you have a USB 3.0 cable or not connected to it. Don't sweat it. The printer will never be able to perform as quickly as it receives data. Even if the printer was capable of faster transmit speeds it would just buffer the data until the printer is ready to write a new page.
