I recently encrypted my Time Machine backup. Now occasionally when I boot my iMac I get a password request. However, if I enter the password I get " the disk Time Machine is already unlocked".
Please can anyone help me with this
Thank You
Brad

I don't think you can avoid that occurring as long as you keep your Time Machine EHD attached and it is encrypted with FileVault. Just allow the password to be stored in your keychain and then it should unlock and mount without asking. Whenever you use FileVault to encrypt your internal hard drive or a Time Machine drive, a password is required. Are you also encrypting your internal hard drive?

Thank you for replying.
The problem is that the password is stored in my keychain. Most of the time this works as it should but every forth or fifth boot I get the problem I described.
My internal drive is not encrypted.
Thanks again
Brad

OK, that might be due to a delay in the external hard drive waking up. It will sometimes ask for a password. Why not just put the machine to sleep instead of shutting down?

I ask this in the spirit of genuine enquiry, not as an offence: what's the point of keeping the PW in Keychain for any encrypted Drive, be it Time Machine or the HDD? Does this not defeat the purpose if security is the aim?

My iMac has a strong password so in order to access my external HDD you would first have to get past that.
I'm not trying to hide any state secrets just keep my stuff private.
