This is a brand new printer, and a search of the OHaP forum thread didn't produce results, so ....

Canon Pixma MG5760, bought as a substitute for a discontinued MX model, which would have worked with OS 10.6.8, which I use 90% of the time.
https://www.canon.co.nz/en-NZ/Perso...inting/Inkjet-printers-and-all-in-ones/MG5760

I can boot into the OS 10.10 partition on the Mini HD if absolutely necessary, but it is a time-consuming p-i-t-b, I have to Quit what I'm doing with SLpd, eg. AppleWorks, and Yosemite has proved to be very slow (an upgrade to El Capitan is on the maybe tomorrow agenda).

Is there a driver solution for this late model of printer with the older OS?
[Canon says no, suggesting instead the driver for 10.7, which won't load, and Apple has withdrawn support for 10.6.8.]

Cheers .... Hugh

According to this website, drivers exist for that printer going all the way back to 10.6. They also have a link to the driver download. Give it a try.

this website.

Thank you chscag, I wonder why Canon hasn't mentioned it ;). Will certainly have a look. There was another website I looked at, but the standard of English, and the fact that it was based in Hong Kong, suggested I shouldn't try it.

Update
A no-go I'm afraid, the link to the driver download states 10.7 or later, despite what the promotional blurb says. I guess I'm stuck with having to reboot into Yosemite to use the new Canon, and I can still scan with the old MP450 using 10.6.x.

This seems odd but I haven't checked all the specs, but I recently purchased a Canon MG5620 a few months ago which is and was setup for wireless printing and it works fine with all our Macs: including SL 10.6.8 2007 iMac, 2007 10.6.8 MBPro and iPad 2 iOS 7/9 and iPad3 iOS 7 and my 2011 iMac running Mav 10.9.5.

It was setup completely via wireless and we use an Apple Express and it has never, ever been connected via USB cable, even during setup which was suggested by Apple and some feeble install sheet.

Anyway, this is FYI.

It works well for printing and scanning, so I can't see why your Canon MG5760 would be so different.

Thanks Patrick, but I think the answer to that lies in the first two digits of your Canon Model #. The 57xx series has, according to Canon, new architecture requiring the Big Leap Forward in terms of Mac OS, thus 10.7 or later.

I didn't try wireless connection setup, and may yet do so, but seeing my printer location is <1 m away from the computer desk, wireless didn't make a lot of sense.

As I've said before and elsewhere, and even asked my programming son, but this printer and OS X "compatibility" thing or lack of seems to come down to a money/sales judgment thing, but there must be something else lurking in the OS X to prevent older printer drivers from working.

As a comparison, we've got and old HP 4ML Laserjet Mac serial connection and AppleTalk only printer that still works in our networked system and with all our recent updated Macs and iDevices. That old printer driver is still included with the most recent Apple OSs, so why can't a new or few years old Canon/HP etc. etc. printer keep printing…??? Something a bit goofy other than money me thinks…

The software they provide from that site is for the Canon IJScanner15f Installation program, at least that what it says…

hughvane, you might want to try and download the gimp-print (gutenprint/CUPS) software and see if it works for you, it is listed as a a "supported Printer" under the "Canon MG5700 series" even if it says "Experimental".
