Searching external drive

mac mid 2011 El Capitan 10.11.3

I have a Seagate GoFlex Pro external drive that backs up all my photos & music. This is in addition to my TimeMachine backup. When I try to search the drive for files nothing comes up. I use another external drive to back up everything else on the computer plus I back up to the cloud. I know, back up mad.

It is connected to my Mac and backs up daily.

Why can't I search these files.

There are at least two ways of interpreting your first sentence and it might make a difference.

Do you mean that the Seagate backs up photos & music on one EHD and the Time Machine is backed separately on another EHD; or do you mean that your photos etc PLUS Time Machine are backed up on the same EHD?

And then you have another EHD with everything else.

Lastly, which EHD are you searching for "these files".
