Why won't USB charge my ipod?

Afternoon all

I'm having problems charging my ipod via usb.

It works fine if the battery is half empty but when it is totally empty it refuses to take a charge vis usb. I've tried it in usb2.0 port and in a usb wall charger and neither work. The only way i can get it to work is through firewire, which i have to borrow cos my 5G didnt come with one.

Does it make a difference that i'm using a 3rd party cable?

Any advice would be great

Thanks, :flower:

When the battery is fully dead the iPod has to be left to charge for about 5 or 10 mins before it has enough power to display that it is charging on the screen. There is nothing wrong with your cable

Thanks for the suggestion but I left it plugged into the wall for several hours and it was still dead...
