iMovie won't work

Hi I tried to load a 43 minute video up to Youtube I have a verified YouTube account. The upload failed twice. I closed iMovie. Now it refuses to reopen. When I get the prompt reopen, it does not open. If I click ignore nothing happens. iMovie has vanished.
My machine is a MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012)
250gb

Any ideas.
