I have upgraded my iMac to the latest operating system and now find that my spreadsheets are opening with NUMBERS and not Libra Office.
Where can I find the settings for default programs opening files please?

Depending on how old your version of "Libre Office" is…maybe it needs to be updated.

Do a "Get Info" on a file. Down towards the bottom there is an "Open With...".
Check the dropdown menu. Select LibreOffice. Click the Change all button.
And yes, update it if necessary.

The drop down list in "get info" shows "open with" but the small arrow points right and does not open. The next option...(preview) has the arrow facing down and the options can be shown or hidden.
This is the same for ALL files regardless of type. (no "open with" option), So there must be something missing???

You cant click on the arrow and get a drop down menu? Should look like this:

Sounds like something is very wrong somewhere. I'd start by using Onyx. all the automated stuff, using the version for your OS.
If that doesn't work, maybe Disk Warrior. Or a combo update from Apple.
No file shows that? Even if you create a text file and do get info it doesn't show?
See ya tomorrow.

Something really sounds odd, especially if "Open with…" is showing nothing, yet the OP's "spreadsheets are opening with NUMBERS".

Or did Yosemite change how that used to work…???

I suspect the OP received a copy of the iWork apps for free when he purchased his iMac (just like I did) and the upgrade to Yosemite set them as default. Actually Numbers does a decent job opening and editing Excel spreadsheets. I have never used Libre Office so I can not compare it to Numbers or Excel.

It's fixed!!!
I created a "pages" document and a "numbers" document. Both showed the "open with" option via "get info"
I the tested my original Libre Office docs and others and BINGO they all show "open with"!!!!
I have NEVER used the default MAC programs to create or open documents before so did doing so trigger the open with option?
I came from Linux so I am used to using Open Office/Libre Office which, in my opinion is as good as MS Office and it's free.
Thanks for your help guys.
