Blood moon

I dragged myself out of bed at 3.30 and got set up. It was totally still and as the Mairie, village council, has decided to save cash by turning the street lights of at about 1.30 it was fantastic!! The 1st I got was this. Just taken with the camera on 'P', a sort of auto setting, but it's too bright



Then I went to the manual setting and played around with the shutter speed





A while back the Mairie decided to chop the street lighting at about 1.30 and it makes such a difference. So much so that the sky was bright enough for me to get a shot I didn't think possible! Orion. That was a full 10 second exposure and I was glad there was no wind at all!



One of the most difficult things was getting the focus spot on, but the colour was wonderful



Then the light started to appear on the left



And as it had taken a couple of hours and it was almost 5.30 I said sod it and went back to bed

Was it worth the sleep loss? You bet yer boots it was

Anyone else watch the spectacle??

I got out of bed as well and saw a beautiful scene .... I had never seen that before.
Was watching it develop for nearly an hour before returning to sleep.

I was excited to see this and, of course, it was really cloudy last night (the city had no intention of turning the lights off either) so I saw absolutely nothing. Consider me jealous.

We saw it from our yard at about 2100 hours in the Midwest, U.S. With just the naked eye, it didn't appear to have a red tint.

LOL. Have to agree there. Besides, it was too cloudy here last night to get a good view.

My husband sat outside and watched. We had a nice clear night and he said he could see the deep red color. I opted for sleep. Wonderful pictures! Thanks for posting them.

Cloudy here as well. I got 5:00 am shots from our last blood moon, but this one was a no show.

I was mostly very frustrated trying to get a good shot of it, here are my best efforts:

You have some cracking shots there too Chas! and you won't have to wait 60 years Chatkett, only till 2029 !!

If McBle is fully booked there's a bit of space here near the beautiful Cité of Carcassonne http://www.creme-de-languedoc.com/Languedoc/sightseeing/carcassonne-citadel.php . They are telling porkies though, there's only 52 towers

Ever try to take a shot of the moon on an iPhone but only get a blurry image. I discovered this neat little trick. Just using the native Camera app. Take your phone inside and point it at something bright, used the kitchen light. When auto focus comes on tap the centre of the screen(this locks the ISO value) now take it outside and take a shot of say a full moon.
The opposite also works for shots taken in dark conditions when you don't want to use a flash. Eg. Fix the ISO by say pointing the camera under the table and then take you shot.
