Webcam Problems

I just bought a Logitech WebCam Chat and my iBook G4 cannot see it (in other words, nothing happens when I plug the webcam in). I installed the software and it never prompted me to put the webcam in. I tried everything and it doesn't work. Anyone willing to help me it will be greatly appreciated.

Are you sure the cam is mac compatible... only a few logitech's are.

Otherwise give iChatusbcam a shot...

Hmm... That's odd, but on the software install CD it had the option of downloading windows or mac. Why would they put mac software if the webcam could only work on windows.

yeah. i used to have a logitech webcam, and i searched around for MONTHS trying to find a mac compatible webcam. i eventually gave in and just got the isight. little pricy, but let me just say its worth it. you DO see a difference in picture quality.

If you happen to have a firewire camcorder you are able to use that. Mine camcorder worked as my webcam for a few month which was great because I was able to zoom really well and the quality was good. Except now I recently upgraded to Tiger from Panther and it doesn't seem to work as a webcam I don't know what the problem.

Just because it is 'mac compatible' doesn't mean it is compatible with iChat. iChat only supports firewire cameras natively. There was one other firewire webcam on the market awhile back, but I can't remember what it was called, and as mentioned above most DV cams with a firewire output will work in ichat as webcams. I suggest you install the mac drivers that came with your logitech and try the ichatusbcam hack. That's what I did and it works fine.
