Dear Reader,

I like to know how can I delete "BootX" that clocked from the Desktop and from the Trash?
I had a system crash. The computer with the installation disk repared it very nicely but I got in the Trash a "Bootx" file or directory. This is clocked and not let me delete it on the regular way.

I have an other question;
How can I have root/admin right here?

Thanks in advance.

BootX is a critical part of the Mac OS, if you do figure out a way to delete (I don't think you can without Terminal), then you're computer will not boot.
Why it was moved, I don't know, but it should be here:

/System/Library/CoreServices/

Check to see if there is another one in that folder (so that we know this is a copy), then post back so you can delete it.

Just letting you know.

Hi surfwax95 aand inflexion,
Thanks for the answer.
Checked and find a "BootX" in the XX/xx/CoreServices.
So it is OK to delete. But How can do it in a terminal.
Think I need root/admin right but do not know how can do it.
Thanks in advance.

If it's on your desktop and you're positive it's a copy then open Terminal and type:

rm -f ~/Desktop/BootX

Press enter and that should delete the file. I've never tried to delete a system locked file, so it may not work.

Hi surfwax95,

Thanks. I wrote the full directory and got the answer that it is a folder and not deleted.

Probably have to change the order.
May be you can give me a link where can I find all the orders?
(I have some computer knowledg about DOS, Windows, Linux)

How the BootX came to the Desktop?
The computer system fall. The reason did not understand.
I made a system repair. The installation disk repaired it nicely. Very nicely.
But he left a BootX in the Trash. I wanted clean the Trash but the BootX left there and it is still there. I tried to move it to the desktop. But it could make only copy so I got it in the desktop. If I know how to delete the Desktop I will know how to delete it from the Trash also.

One more word. I have to suggest to somebody to buy a computer. He has NO computer knowledge. As I know Windows even Linux the best I can offer is MAC. Nice hardware nice software.
thanksagain.

If it was successfully deleted off of the desktop, then we can delete it from the Trash too. Follow these instructions very carefully. Open Terminal and type only what you see in Bold:

cd ~

Hit Enter

cd .Trash

Make sure to type the period before the word 'trash'.

rm -f BootX

Hit enter, and your trash should be empty.

Hi surfwax95,

I tried all but on that way it is not functioned.
1. "BootX" was in more deep in Trash behind other directories.
2. when I tried to delete on other form the answer was that it is a directory
3. Or you not had enough privilige to delete.

So I had to search for other solution and here is the link that I used.
