speed of internet via ethernet

if your are connected to your router via an ethernet cable will your internet speed increase at all or not

I'm assuming you're talking about wireless being the other option. If you are far away from the router on wireless an eithernet cable will increase your speed, but if you are very close to the router you notice a difference with the eithernet cable.

A wired connection is always faster than a wireless connection.

an ethernet connection can communicate at 100mbps. while it is faster, it is still dependent on your connection speed. if you have wireless g, it communicates at 54mbps, yes it is slower, it is also dependent on your connection speed. unless you are in Japan with a 100mbps connection, either connection will be the same speed.

true, but wireless has latency, so it will seem slower.

Theoritically, your home network speed only needs to be as fast as your internet connection. Being able to connect at 100mbps to the thing that will connect to the internet at 2mbps is pretty pointless, unless you will be sharing files internally in your network.

However, I think ethernet does have a slightly better response time, but not by much
