Well I just can't STOP having issues, can I? :p So my iMac has Garageband 3.0.5. I am running OS X 10.6.8. I am trying to update to Garageband 6, but when I hit "Check for Updates" in GB3, I don't get anything. How do I update my Garageband? Thank you in advance.

I believe you're going to need to upgrade OS X before you can update Garageband to 6.0.5.

Well, that's peculiar. I LITERALLY JUST brought this iMac in to the Genius Bar and they updated it for me. It was using OS X 10.4.11 (earlier today) and it had Garageband 3. When I brought it home, Garageband was still Garageband 3, but the system is running Snow Leopard. Why is this? Can I NOT upgrade it? Both Garageband and Software Update don't bring anything up relating to Garageband. When I try updating via GarageBand, I see a message similar to "3.0.5 is the latest version". What surprises me is that Apple's website says that GB 6 can run on Snow Leopard.

OK. Do you have an Apple ID? If you do, sign in to the Mac App Store and click on "purchases". If Garageband is listed there it should say "install", which means you can download it. If not, then you'll need to purchase the latest version which will run on your Mac from the App Store.

Thank you. I have an Apple ID but I still need to purchase it. However, when I click "Buy" it says I can't buy it because this version requires Mac OS X 10.9. How do I get GB 6 off of this App Store?

Try this, and all it says for System Requirements is Mac OS X 10.6.8

I can't recall if my version 6.x for 10.6.8 came via iLife '09 or what but I believe it was a pay for upgrade, I think???

I'm sorry, I didn't realize it was just an update.

Even though Apple didn't say, I guess I should have known better that it wouldn't be the complete app. :(

What you need is an upgrade not an update.

Garageband 4-6 were part of the iLife packages.
Version 4 - iLife '08
Version 5 - iLife '09
Version 6 - iLife '11

You can still find iLife 11 on Amazon and likely a few other places.
