I was wondering why when it's possible with the iPad that we cannot change the orientation of the Home Screens on the iPhone.
I have an old bedside radio iPhone Dock. I don't want to get rid of it but I have to use a short adaptor cable to connect it to the new iPhone 5 s 8 pin lightening connector.
The problem is that plugged in it is not long enought to stand the iPhone upright but it would be easy to stand on it's side. Unfortunately although many apps will work in that orientation the home screens will not. I suppose i just wondered why as I would not have thought it would have required too much work to make it so.

You can solve that problem very quickly Rod. Just buy an iPhone 6+. ;D Sorry, but your iPhone 5s and my 5c do not support home screen landscape mode. Only the 6+ with the larger screen supports it.

And the reason why . . . . . You know Apple, it probably came down to aesthetics.

Drat! Guess I'm stuck with that then. At least until the next iPhone model upgrade.:(

LOL. Jailbreak = Brick. Lots of luck with your new brick which you can always use as a paper weight. ;D

Or, Jailbreak = Think Different, and use your device as YOU want, not as Jony Ive and Apple dictate and restrict. ;)

It sure works well on my old iPad 2.

Your old iPad 2 is not an iPhone 5s. We just had a guy on here the other day that jailbroke his new iPhone to do whatever and guess what? It bricked. I don't know about you, but when I pay big $$ for an iPhone, I think I'd rather do without landscape mode or play whatever snake game that might be infested with malware.

Wow - I learned something new! I did not know about the landscape option. Since I am visually challenged (old eye syndrome), I zoom my display. It does not work in zoom mode - sigh....

As for jailbreaking - I have a friend who does it - and reverts the iPhone 5s back - all the time. I am waiting for him to brick it. It will happen. In my more adventurous days I bricked my android phone and now I am a reformed person. Cost me $$$$ to replace the phone so it was an expensive lesson.

I have decided I need my iPhone to do what it was intended to do - be very reliable when making and holding a call, get messages, and emails, hold my calendar and contacts. It does this very well. The rest is icing on the cake.

That's a naughty word here. But yes, I did think of Cydia and it can be done with Jailbreak (oops, I said it again) I checked, but it's a pain with all of the regular iOS upgrades. Have to keep waiting for the next version and so on. And I agree with you in principal Apple relinquishes all control over your device as soon as you hand over the cash but it has been known to cause problems.;D

Lisa I suppose that means you have an iPhone 6 as well. Ah well, I'm always a little behind the times but I'm glad it helped you.:D

Yes, a 6+. Prior to that I had all android based due to screen size. I like a larger phone (remembers the eyes!) So when the 6+ came out I was ready to upgrade and switch.

I'll probably upgrade my 5c to a new 6+s whenever it's released. And like Lisa, I need to have a larger screen to really do anything on the phone except answer phone calls. My wife who has excellent eyesight has no problem with a smaller screen - but then she's a lot younger than I am. O:)
