iTunes App launch on a Mac

New to Mac. I am curious about Apps in iTunes that say they are optimized for iPad or iPhone. I have downloaded a couple on my Macbook, but have not figured out, if it's even possible, how they can be launched from My Apps in iTunes. I have noticed the same apps absent from the Apps Store. Are these apps not supported on the Macbook? Thank you.

iOS devices like the iPad, iPhone, iPod touch run iOS. This is a different operating system than OS X, so no, they don't run (they are stored there for backup purposes if you choose to do that with iTunes, though).
