Preferences - Printers and Scanners does not include 5" x 7".
Selecting 5" x 7" in CS5 is ineffective. The image is not fully printed.
Puzzling.
I'd be grateful for any help.

You'll have to provide more details. What scanner do you have? How have you configured it?

Apple - Preferences - Printer and Scanner 7 " x 5"

Sorry. I wasn't clear. My problem is printing at 7" x 5" from Photoshop CS5.
I have an iMac 21" OS 10.10.4 - I had the problem with 10.10.3.

Apple Preferences - Printer & Scanner does not show a media choice of 5" x 7",
CS5 does, but CS5 is somehow over-ridden by some larger media format, so I don't get the complete image.

I thought that Epson Remote Panel might be of use, but the downloaded disk image refuses to open.

I intended printing a large number of 7 x 5s for a grandchild's birthday, but time is getting short. Ah well !

What happened when you tried?

It sounds like the printer settings in OS X are taking precedence. Did you configure your printer using Epson's drivers or did you let OS X install the relevant drivers? It's possible that OS X's version (if you went that route) don't fully support all functionality for your printer.

Normally, the "Page Size" is changed in the printers settings when you go to print from an application, not in the Print System Preferences.

You should have a setting option similar to this (even though the printer is a different brand and model):

The paper sizes available to choose must be spelled-out in the printer PPD file. (which is found in /etc/cups/ppds - you can use Go > Go to folder to see the contents of the .ppd file there.)
Which printer is it? Did it ever have 5x7 in a previous driver version?

You can't normally view a *.ppd file to see what it contains. Any suggestions?

I dare say that normally would be the key word here and sure shouldn't be necessary these days but I can sure recall doing some mods many years ago with a text editor, and it may have even been done when TeachText sp? And maybe even ResEdit in those days. ;D

And it looks like some still do, but sure not normal and there should be easier methods these days to set a custom size. ;)

A .ppd file is plain text, but doesn't have an app associated with it.
I use Text Wrangler.
Tried using Get Info to set Preview to show it - doesn't work.
But using cat in Terminal shows plain text. I'm guessing Yosemite is limiting access intentionally. Thanks for pointing this out.

PS - for the OP - my typo - the folder location of currently-added PPDs is /etc/cups/ppd - not ppds.

Hmmm, didn't know that.

So, I took a look at one for my old printer and I found these lines:
Code:
*PageSize 5x7/5 x 7: "<</PageSize[360.00 504.00]/ImagingBBox null>>setpagedevice"
*PageSize 5x7.FullBleed/5 x 7 (borderless): "<</PageSize[360.00 504.00]/ImagingBBox null/cupsBorderlessScalingFactor 1.0263217098>>setpagedevice"
Are PageSize instructions (or whatever they're called in PPDs) transferable across printers or are they printer specific?

I haven’t ever edited a .ppd.
But you’ll notice you have to understand (this is my issue!) and make “related” entries for page size, imageable area, paper dimension, etc, for it to work. I think those numbers [360.00 504.00] are model-specific.

Maybe the cups PPD checker would help you at least get the right number of entries.

Sorry, I may be missing something important in all of this but can't you go into the print driver and specify the custom size that you want to print? It's been a while since I supported 10.10.4 but I remember setting a custom size page by clicking on the OSX print drivers "page size" and then choosing "manage custom settings". There, I then specified the length, width, and the margins to apply. Saving the custom setting then allowed printing that size.

For the OP’s benefit - that’s found in the “Page Setup” dialog. Go to Format for: - your printer, and then to Paper Size.

I have created a benign hornets!! nest. I bow my head in shame.
I had been using 5" x 7"and inadvertently switched to using 4" x 6', hence the loss of image.
I accept 95% blame, but . . .
The Epson Premium Glossy measurement is in new money on the end of the pack: 10 X 15cm.
Good for pack design; not so good for mouldy oldies like me.
There is so much bad going in, and I am really warmed by the help and time that people have given.
I only hope that some of you have benefited from the contributions people have made.
Sorry !

Dennis, I don't know if your Epson provides any means to change or display the paper size in Imperial or Metric dimensions, but to save my old brains confusion with Metric, my Canon shows the equivalent measurement in it's Page Setup and in the print page window:
