Im about to buy a 5k 27 inch IMac, Ill mainly use it for Music Production and downloading/streaming videos/music.

iv selected most specifications the best possible, which leaves Internal storage, i definitely want flash storage, so iv got 512 vs 1tb, i was gonna pick 1tb but then i thought it would be a relief to save £400! i can buy an extra 2tb hard drive storage for £75!, however if the internal 1tb makes the actual running and browsing of the Mac faster in general then i think it'd be worth it.

if you could help me thatd be great guys, thanks!

The only way I can see that having the larger 1 TB drive would make a difference is if you tend yo keep a lot of stuff on the boot drive. The smaller drive will fill up first before the 1 TB drive. That will become an issue if there isn't enough free space for the various swap files OS X creates.

There would be no difference in speed between the 512GB and 1TB. Where you might see a difference is if the 512 were to get filled up. Let the free space get to low and it will cause a reduction in speed as part of the drive is used as a swap area.

That said, I have 512GB in my Mac Pro as it's main drive. I have all the video/audio files on other drives. I only keep Apps on the main drive. This is actually a good practice as the more you spread out the files you are working on the faster the computer is and the less bottlenecking.

Dubious I think and the OP only mentioned and queried about a 5k 27 inch IMac.

And I won't mention any price to performance comparisons to a Mac Pro and I don't know if Harry could handle either without a few brews!! ;) :Lips-Are-Sealed: :$

Harry has owned a Mac Pro before and done quite a bit of surgery on them. The new Mac Pro takes up a lot less space and weighs less than a 5K 27" iMac. I remember Harry saying that his older Mac Pro was just too heavy to lug around or move. The older Mac Pros were built like a German WWII Panza. :p

Probably quite true, and we all know what happens when either is met with and finds their match. :D

Be it a iMac or Mac Pro, having a 512Gb over a 1TB Flash Drive, won't make it any faster.
