New iMac sometimes wont start

Hello guys. I need some help here with my new iMac.

Sometimes when I start it, I hear the mac sound and then I see the loading icon with the black screen background, and it stays there for many minutes without logging in. To log in I have to hard restart the Mac. It has done this randomly about 5-6 times, once every 2-3 days. Can you please help figuring out what the problem is?

You said it's new, how new? Still under warranty? If so, let Apple repair it. In the meantime try resetting the SMC: Shut the iMac down and remove it from the AC power outlet. Let it stay that way for about 10 - 15 minutes. Plug it back in and restart.

Hi thanks for your reply. Its just a month old. The IT guy from my new job got the mac from a reseller and because that reseller wouldnt install extra 8 GB RAM he went on and installed it somewhere else and i guess by doing that we lost our warranty. Stupid move I know but now I just have to deal with it. I will try the SMC resetting the next time it does it though.

The 27" iMac has user replaceable RAM. That does not void any warranty!

Take out the new memory and try with the just the original. IT guys sometimes do not realize Mac memory is low density modules, quite different most PC memory.

And any Authorised Reseller who can't install additional modules in the 27" should not be dealt with!
