Is there a simple way of converting .pages docs to .odt or .doc?

I'm using Libre Office on my new iMac and find it awesome — with one exception. It doesn't convert .pages or .numbers files. Only had a few spreadsheets, so converted them on my old iMac via Numbers to .ods. Perfect. But I have quite a few more .pages files. Must I open each one and save it as a .odt or .doc file? Please save me from tedium with a batch script or quicker technique. Can it be done?

Thanks.

Maybe an AppleScript could do this, but I doubt it. I suspect you'll need to do them each one. Or, to make life a lot simpler, don't. Just leave them as Pages documents, and export to .doc or .odt only when needed.

Or maybe you need an intern. :)

Someone recommended a site to me a while back that might do what you need. It says it;s free but I don't know if there's a limit to the number of files that can be converted. PAGES to DOC | Zamzar - Free online file conversion. Might be worth a try,

This recommendation might have come from someone in the forum.

Thanks, Chas and Sly.

Zamzar will do it, but you have to register on their site. $9/month. Good to know it's there.

I was thinking I will lose iWork when I sell my old iMac, but I still have it on my laptop. So I'll use Chas's suggestion until/unless Apple gives me a good reason to pay for a new version of iWork.

Just buy a new Mac and then the iWork apps will be free both for OS X and iOS. ;D

Hmm. Just got a barely used pre-owned iMac originally bought at MacMall in February of this year. Should it have had iWork installed already?

Not already installed. The original owner would have had to go to the Mac App Store to retrieve the iWork apps. He would have been notified of the free availability of the iWork apps by Software Update. Therefore, if the iWork apps are not already on the iMac, it's because the previous owner never downloaded them.

chscag, you are a frickin' genius! I saw the apps for $19.99 a pop on the App store, but the Software Updates section also has them as updates. I didn't click before, because I figured I would get charged the fee. Clicked. Downloading. No fee!

Thanks! I'm still going to use LibreOffice, but won't have to worry about using another computer to convert the old .pages documents. Thank you to all who made suggestions. :)

Don't forget to go to the iTunes App store and download the iWork apps for your iPhone and iPad. They're also free for you. :)
