I am not sure this is the right place for this question, but I could not find any other place that seemed better. If this is the wrong forum please let me know and I will move it.
I recently purchased an external monitor to use with my MacBook Pro (Dell U2414H 1920x1080). I am using it with a display port cable and it works well, but I am not sure if it is better to use it as a mirror of the Retina display or not and I don't know what the advantages and disadvantages of either are. I have noticed that if I mirror the displays I can place my Dock on the left of the screen and access it but if I do not mirror the monitor I can not see the Dock on the left.
What is the best setup? Mirror or not mirror? And why? My MBP is an i7, 16GB RAM, 512 GB SSD, 15" early 2013. The monitor is intended to be used as my only display so I am not trying to use both and I have the Retina screen brightness dialed all the way down so nothing is displayed.
Any help would be appreciated.
