After quite a bit of googling and poking around I can't seem to find an obvious way to kill the sliding animation when switching windows. It's a huge productivity sink!

What sliding animation is this? Command-Tab window switching doesn't involve any animation. If you're talking about the genie effect when minimizing/maximizing windows, that can be changed in System Preferences > Dock.

Whoops, wasn't specific enough. So lets say I have 2 full screen apps going (in my case a browser and a terminal), when I switch between the two it had the slide effect.

There's no way to do this but a third party workspace manager called TotalSpaces appears to have this feature. See here.
