I've purchased Firewire 6-pin/4-pin but the 6-pin end didn't fit. Using Macbook Pro (2013). I've never used firewire. I have a Firewire 400 port. Wanted input before purchasing a 3rd cable. Firewire 800 (9-pin/4-pin)? Please advise soonest. Tks.

There is no Firewire port on any 2013 model Macbook Pro. There is a Firewire port on the 2012 models.

Suggest you tell us which specific Mac you have - screen size and processor.

Also, rather than connecting a camera directly to your computer, I advise taking whatever card your camera uses out of the camera and use a card reader.

Connect Jvc D850 to MacBook Pro (Firewire 400 port)

You're correct, it's mid 2012(my err). 13-inch/2.9 GHz Intel Core i7. Jvc camcorder d850 (older model) used mini dv (4-pin for sure). Firewire 400 port is my problem.

If the MacTracker specs are right then your Mac has a firewire 800 port. Your camera seems to have a 4 pin firewire connection. If that's correct then this cable should work. Take a good look at the connections in the picture to see if they look right.

This cable is available in a variety of places for about $8.00 to $10.00. When searching it is referred to as a 9 pin to 4 pin firewire cable or Firewire 800 to 4 pin.

Slydude, thanks. After researching that was my conclusion. I was taken aback because the Users Guide described it as a Firewire 400. Found the Firewire 9-pin/4-pin. Getting it from Amazon. Thanks again. I'll let you know if it works.

I'd appreciate knowing if it works. Fingers crossed.

That should work if both connections are correct. I can't test it because I don't have any gear with that mini connector on it. I can tell you that I have a firewire 800 to 400 cable with the standard sized connections on the ends and it works fine.

BTW that cable is listed as firewire 400 due to the speed of the port involved. The actual size of the connection has little or nothing to do with it. Technically accurate but somewhat confusing. For the longest time I had to look up the number of pints to make sure I got the right connection.
