I'm afraid we need more information. What version of OS X are you using? What specific problems are you having?

That SSD has SATA III speed and is backward compatible with SATA II only. Your MBP, being an older model, only has SATA or now called SATA !.

I tried to install directly on the laptop Mac OS Mavericks but unfortunately it stuck at 17% only. I use a latest MBP and the installation push through and upgrade to OS Yosemite. Again I tried to boot it directly on my old MBP and failed so I decided to boot it using the external case and it works perfectly. My only problem for now is that I need that SSD to boot up inside the old MBP not from external. When I put it inside and boot it, the loading bar stuck at half of it only.

Intereting your link says the 2008 MBP is SATAII yet quotes the speed as 3GB/s. SATA was 1.5GB/s and SATA IIas 3GB/s and your drive is SATA III 6GB/s. Mactracker reports your MBP as 3GB/s. It appears the two late 2008 MBP report different speeds through Mactracker. Kingston state their drive is backwards compatible with SATA II only. Looks like you need to take it up with Kingston. Regardless it will only work at the lower speed and not the 6GB/s.

Also under Yosemite Apple had changed KEXT Security and TRIM is disabled. Run a Google on Cindori's opinion on this. The good news is Apple has reversed this reportedly on the next OS release.

@HARRY - I checked on Mactracker - IOS and the details below:

Hard Drive Interface
3.0 Gbps Serial ATA (SATA)

Optical Driver Interface
3.0 Gbps Serial ATA (SATA)

I am coordinating now with Kingston Technical Support and waiting for their feedback regarding this matter. Thanks for your help.

Good. It is quite strange the 15" has SATA II and the 17" is reported as SATA I. If problems persist, as the drive works perfectly in the external caddy, the next suspect would be the internal SATA cable. They do get brittle with heat and often crack with handling, causing problems you describe.

I tried to boot the SSD internally but it only stuck on half of the loading bar. I tried also booting it on the optical drive caddy for 2.5 HDD but the same issue occurs.

Difference of sata 3 gigabit to sata 2 & sata 3

Please help me regarding the difference between the 3. I have macbook unibody late 2008 with a link speed of 3 gigabit and I bought Kingston Hyperx Savage SSD which is SATA 3 and with backward compatibility to SATA 2. Is there a way that this will be compatible to my system.

Read my post about the SATA cable as the Savage works in the external caddy okay?

@harry - I have the old HDD for that MBP and it was working fine. I believe it is only on the SSD Savage compatibility, the Kingston Technical support said that they do not support my machine.

Ahh well that answers all. Will the retailer take it back? Personally purchased one Kingston SSD, failed in three months so they are not a brand I trust.

@ harry - I asked the retailer and since they are my friend they are taking it back. I am planning to take Hyperx 3k as an option. Well what brand do you suggest that is compatible to my late 2008 model of MBP?

@harry - the main problem is the nvidia chipset compatibility to kingston hyperx savage. It doesn't support that is why not booting internally the drive.

It is good of your friend to do that so I would take the HyperX.

If you had asked before would have suggested either OOWC or OZC. Have had great runs with both and the new Yosemite update has fixed the TRIM problems.

I have exactly the same problem.

Kingston Hyperx Savage 240Gb on a mid-2009 Macbook Pro...
Tried everything and it doesn't work. Actually tried on two identical
mid-2009 Macbook Pro's and got the same results.

Installed it on an early-2011 13" Macbook Pro and it worked like a charm.

Lenovolenovo: what did you eventually do?

His friend took the drive back.
