Hi Nick
This is a follow-up to a thread I started on March 16th 2015
You helped with some possible solutions, but due to personal issues, I had to exit the thread on March 19th.

Since that thread has been inactive for almost 3 months, I thought it would be best to start a new one.

Here's the original:

http://www.mac-forums.com/forums/os-x-operating-system/322846-upgraded-snow-leopard-mountain-lion-now-having-issues.html

Here's where I'm at now.
I ordered memory from OWC. You mentioned them in the original thread.
I went with the full 6 gig upgrade.
One 4 gig stick & One 2 gig stick.

I received the sticks today. I found the following apple site for directions on installing the ram.

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT1423

Now I'm afraid this isn't going to work at all.
Unless I'm missing something, according to the link above, I can only upgrade to 4gigs total.

Memory specifications
These iMac computers have two side-by-side Synchronous Dynamic Random-Access Memory (SDRAM) slots in the bottom of the computer.
The maximum amount of random-access memory (RAM) you can install in the computer is:
Computer*
Memory Type*

Maximum Memory*
iMac (Mid 2007) DDR2 4GB (2x2GB)

iMac (Early 2008) DDR2 4GB (2x2GB) *Mine*

iMac (Early 2009) DDR3 8GB (2x4GB)

At one point in the thread you stated "You could either upgrade to 4gig or 6gig"

Here's my original shipping order & IMAC specs.
Please tell me I'm missing something.

While I'm not Nick, let me jump in anyway..:)

While Apple says that your machine is limited to 4GB only, Everymac has tested it and determined that it is actually capable of going up to 6GB, so install the RAM per the instructions and you should see the full 6GB reported in About this Mac..

Hey there Steve (easilyscan). Ashwin beat me to it...which is perfect...since you got a answer faster that way!:)

Just stick that ram in...and you're good to go!:)

Done.
I'm a little superstitious.
Because of that, & the fact that it's only been a couple hours, I will not say that there's been a big improvement in every area.
Folders, files, web, etc :)

Unfortunately, the other operating issues I had didn't go away :'(
I'll list them here:

Safari specific issues:

1- I used to use the delete key to go back to the previous page. This no longer works.

2- If I click a link that opens a new window, I can still use command + W to close that window &
go back. But if I accidentally click the red button in the upper left hand corner to manually close
it, it closes both.

3- I often leave open links on the dock. Before the upgrade, if I was working on a text file that
included links & clicked on one, it would open a new window. When I do this now, it pulls up
the furthest right open window on the dock & opens the new page with it.
And the only way to for me to get back to the window/page it pulled up from the dock is to hit command + w

Preview Issues:

It opens up all photo's at a reduced size ?
It wasn't this way previously. If I click view on the toolbar, then 'actual size' it shows
the proper resolution, but reverts back to 'zoom to fit' when I try again ?

I've went through preview 'preferences' with no luck. For now, I changed the 'default'
picture viewer to Safari, but would prefer preview because of it's editing features.

Uploading:
If I have 3 new pictures I want to upload to a folder @ Photo-Bucket, I have to do each one individually.
Before the upgrade, I could click and drag/scroll over & upload any number of them.

If possible, I would prefer to try & correct these issues without doing a re-install of the OS.

Is there a mac maintenance program that would help me ?
I think someone here mentioned a program called Onyx ?

Could it be as simple as having the wrong 'settings' ?

Thanks

Steve
