Both USB ports(have 3, one used by Keyboard) on my 24 " iMac ,late 2006, not recognising any connected USB stick or ext. Hard drives. Anyone recognise the problem & how to fix. Keyboard works in any of the 3 ports but nothing else connects.

If the keyboard works in all three ports, then the ports are working. Have you tried new USB cables? If new cables don't solve the problem, then it's likely that your USB ports are putting out low power only. The keyboard and a printer will work off low power but not a hard drive. You can try a SMC reset but if that doesn't work, you're probably looking at a new logic board which wouldn't be worth replacing in a machine that old.

With the devices plugged in and turned On, check your "system information" or "more Info" (I don't know what OS X version you're running) on the USB option and see if they are shown.
