This just started happening on my MacBook Pro 2011 OS X 10.10.3, Whenever I select multiple items to drag and drop the selection I've chosen either changes or the items drop in a place I haven't selected. Also, when I try to highlight a sentence in a document to copy, the highlighted area starts to invert before I finish. That is to say when I start Highlighting the beginning of a sentence, half way through what I just Highlighted is now un-highlighted and the end of the sentence becomes highlighted. Any ideas? Thanks

Hello Operageek - welcome to the forum! :) Please provide further information on which software you are using, e.g. on the web, in a word processing app, etc.? Does this happen in just one app or many? Have you rebooted the computer? Dave

Hi Dave and thanks for the welcome. I have shut down and rebooted and the problem persists. It happens when I'm using FireFox, dragging files between finder windows, on Word, pretty much anywhere I try to drag and drop.

Reboot your MacBook Pro by holding down the Command and R keys in order to get into Recovery. Once in Recovery, select Utilities, Disk Utility, and verify your hard drive. Let us know the result. It's always best to check the hardware first when weird things start happening.

Sounds like a mouse problem to me, if you're using a mouse. If you have another mouse to test, do that. If you're using the track pad, then the above advice should be followed.

Great Thanks!! That seemed to fix the problem. There were a couple of "Invalid directory item count" messages and I was instructed to Click Repair Disk and so I did. So far so good.

Thanks again,
Miguel
