I have a 2012 MBP which has had a user account removed but none of the user data. Can I use Terminal to remove the old user data? If so what command

It's easier to enable the root account and delete the user account data that way.

Unfortunatly the user account has been deleted already (not my fault). I thought there was a sudo rm command in the terminal command line that would enable me to remove media and files from the deleted user account. I just don't want to muck around if I'm unsure as this is my cousins computer.

I wouldn't have suggested it to just anyone Rod. ;D I'm sure you won't muck anything up in the process. Just make a backup first. The root account will allow you to remove all of the user data that is no longer needed.

Beleive it or not I have never used the root account before and although I know how to set it up in account prefs I'm not sure what I will be looking for to delete. My cousin tells me his dad had a lot of media (music, movies, pics) which have all been moved to his own new computer but my cousin thought deleting his user account would get rid of all that, of course it didn't and now he can't find the files which are taking up over 100 gb of his storage.
So when I log in as Root how do I locate the files that do not belong to the now single Admin account?
Sorry looks like I don't know everything after all.

I'm pretty sure all user files are still in /Users/username

This is correct - all users home directories are located in /Users. A simple solution would be to simply remove the user directory from /Users (and double check to make sure that you're removing the right one).
