I have a 1TB Hard Drive and I am now using 750GB

I intend to setup Boot Camp and install Photoshop which will use more space.

Is it possible, and would it be a good idea, to transfer ALL of my data to an external drive and then backup to a second external drive?

If you have a license for a PC version of Photoshop you might be able to get a "crossgrade" where they they transfer the license to a Mac version. Just make sure that the version they transfer the line to runs on your Mac.

I'm not sure Adobe is continuing the practice of "cross grading" since they have gone to the subscription service for PS and other of their apps. It's best to check with them and ask as you have been advised.

While I sympathize with people who say they don't "like" subscription-based software, Photoshop CC 2015 costs $10 a month (and includes Lightroom in that deal, which may or may not be of any use to you).

At its former CS6 cost, I would have to pay for CC for about six years to match the money spent on CS6, and CS6 offers no upgrade path, no long-term tech support, no improvements, and no guarantee of future compatibility. This goes for the Windows version as well as the Mac version. If you stop paying, you lose access to the Photoshop program, of course (which is installed on your Mac, incidentally), but lots of other programs can open Photoshop files (say Pixelmator as an example), so you are at zero risk of losing any work.

At this reasonable price, I'd recommend you upgrade to the much-improved functionality and performance of the native, current, supported software for your Photoshop needs.
